HondaVAC Starts Twitter Fight with Food Brands

When picking a fight, it’s important to never bite off more than you can chew, lest you spill crumbs.  To help promote the 2014 Odyssey and its innovative HondaVAC in-vehicle vacuum cleaner, Honda engaged in a war of words with fifteen different fast food and snack brands on Twitter.  The battle of wits amounted to 60 tweets (42 of which were Honda’s), 10.6 million impressions from Twitter followers, and plenty of crumbs from crumbled cookies swept up off the floor in the aftermath.

On October 1, Honda fired off a number of tweets at brands such as Taco Bell, Skittles, and Oreos in order to warn them of what would happen should their crumbs find their way onto the Odyssey’s floor.  This included the tweets: “Dear @TacoBell crumbs, if you fall on my floor, you will be no mas,” “Mmmmmmmm.  The rainbow is tasty @Skittles (accompanied by a picture of Skittles being sucked into the HondaVAC),” and “Hey @BurgerKing, we’ll be #Satisfried when we’ve vacuumed every one of you off our floors.”

Honda previously called upon the talents of Neil Patrick Harris and Rainn Wilson to become “spokescrumbs” in television ads promoting the 2014 Odyssey and the HondaVAC vacuum cleaner.   For those looking to enjoy the cleanest ride possible, we here at Avery Greene Honda have LX, EX, EX-L, and Touring versions of the 2014 Odyssey available on our lot right now!

While Honda’s Twitter campaign ultimately proved successful in picking fights with Doritos, Red Vines, and Hershey’s Kisses and generating buzz for the 2014 Odyssey, we think they could have set their sights just a little bit higher.  Imagine what a Twitter feud with Kanye would have done for the brand!  #YOLO#SWAGSWAG

HondaVAC Sweeps Away the Competition for the 2014 Odyssey

It’s one of those ideas that’s so brilliant and obvious that you are dumbfounded it’s taken someone this long to think of it—a built-in vacuum cleaner for a minivan. But Honda—thanks to inspiration from an engineer’s daughter—has finally done it: the HondaVAC comes standard on the Touring Elite model of the 2014 Honda Odyssey, and as Honda’s extensive marketing campaign is proving, they’re quite proud of it.

“Nobody else has a vacuum,” gloated Tom Peyton, Honda’s associate vice president of advertising. “Finding a point of differentiation [for minivans] can be tough, so shame on us if we don’t run with it.”

And run with it, they have. Honda has released several new commercials, using celebrity voice talents to tout the new vacuum. One commercial even features Neil Patrick Harris and Rainn Wilson, and Honda has hinted that more commercials are on their way.

Honda has also been aggressively hyping up the vacuum on Twitter: the automaker has been tweeting smack talk messages to other companies and products about how the HondaVAC will “wipe the floor” with them, if you will. This article compiles most of Honda’s Twitter trash talk.
