New Honda Sport Hybrid i-MMD Powertrain Gives Two Motors to Hybrids

Honda recently announced yet another game-changing technology upgrade: adding a two-motor hybrid system–being called the Sport Hybrid i-MMD powertrain–to its larger vehicles, starting with the Odyssey minivan found on Japanese market

This will not only increase the power of the already large vehicles, but also the two-motor hybrid system will seriously improve vehicles’ fuel economy, which is typically a weak point for large models on the automotive market.

The brilliant engineers at Honda were able to make the two-motor hybrid system work for the Odyssey by cutting down on the size and weight of some of the heftier components, such as the battery.

It’s unclear when the Honda Sport Hybrid i-MMD powertrain will find its way into American vehicles, but it’s safe to assume that it’s on its way, particularly for Honda minivans and other vehicles similar in size.

Honda Civic Wins Overall KBB Best Buy Award

The all-new Honda Civic recently received top honors from Kelley Blue Book (KBB). The KBB Best Buy Awards are given to vehicles that exceed in performance, efficiency, styling, technology, affordability, and more. It’s no wonder the Civic took home the gold.

According to Honda, the 2016 Civic topped the Overall Winner category; however, there were also some winners in other categories. The Civic also won the Small Car category, the CR-V won the Small SUV category, the Pilot took the Mid-Size award, and the Odyssey dominated the Minivan category.

Jeff Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of the Honda Division, stated, “This prestigious award from KBB.com helps current and future buyers with their purchase decisions and further solidifies the notion that for customers who purchase a Honda, be it a car or a light truck, they are making an ‘overall’ smart choice.”

The KBB Best Buy Award was specifically given to the new Civic because it is a market-leader in every segment. It is new and updated, with a fresh exterior and interior, the best in safety, tons of features, and fantastic performance. What’s not to like about the new Civic?

The Trusted Minivan Is the Perfect Vehicle for Families

It has been the stereotypical “soccer mom’s” mode of transportation and endured long family vacations, but regardless of who owns it or what it’s used for, everyone knows it as the beloved minivan. With school back in session, the van has made a solid reappearance in the auto industry too—probably because it’s the perfect vehicle for families.

The Street quotes Brandy Schaffels from AskPatty.com, who says, “The minivan has had lasting appeal because of its practical functionality.” It is no question that vans are the most efficient way to transport groups of people and luggage. The competing SUVs lack the low entry for ease of access for the smaller family members. The flat floors also aid in easy passenger loading, along with sliding doors that are large enough to allow nearly anything to be stored in the back. There is no denying that the minivan stands up to the test of time and is nearly essential for every family.

If you’re interested in one, the base price for a Honda Odyssey starts at $28,975 and gets a wonderful 19 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. Join the minivan hype and get your own today from Avery Green Honda!

Honda Accord and CR-V Are America’s Most Popular Car and SUV

As kids, we’re taught to do the right thing, even if it isn’t popular. Occasionally, however, the right thing and the popular thing are one and the same. Such is the case for the Honda Accord and CRV, which are America’s most popular mid-size car and SUV, respectively, for the first half of 2014.

The Accord is America’s most popular car for the first half of 2014!

According to data supplied by IHS Automotive, the retail sales of both the Honda Accord and CR-V have surpassed segment competitors’ sales during the first half of 2014.

If this trend continues, the Accord is on its way to once again be the best-selling mid-size car on the retail market, and the CR-V will continue its decade-long streak as America’s best-selling SUV.

“More individual customers put a new Honda Accord in their driveway in the first

The Honda CR-V has been the best-selling SUV in America for a decade.

half of this year than any other new car in America, and SUV buyers continue to choose CR-V more than any other SUV in America,” said Jeff Conrad, Honda Division senior VP and general manager. “While competitors rely on deep-discounts and sales to corporate and rental fleets, Honda continues to achieve steady and sustainable growth based on the quality and value of our products in the hands of individual customers.”

The Honda Civic and Odyssey also led their segments in most retail sales from January to June of 2014.

When it comes down to it, Honda vehicles have repeatedly earned the title as “Most Popular in America” because they continue to prove themselves to be the right car for so many customers. Honda Vehicles Named in ACEEE’s 12 Greenest Vehicles List

Honda has announced that four of their vehicles have earned recognition for superior environmental performance from the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE). Three of those vehicles—the Honda Civic Hybrid, Civic Natural Gas, and Insight—placed among the group’s “12 Greenest Vehicles of 2013” list. Additionally, the Honda Odyssey minivan topped its segment and was named one of the “greener choices of 2014.”

“Honda has embraced the challenge to bring to market more energy-efficient mobility solutions to reduce CO2 emissions,” said Steven Center, vice president of the Environmental Business Development Office at American Honda Motor Co., Inc, in a press release. “ACEEE’s recognition of Honda’s fuel-efficient models over the past 16 years, including a diverse lineup of alternative fuel vehicles, is recognition of the Honda engineers who continue to work towards our goal to leave ‘Blue Skies for our Children.’”

2014 Honda Insight

The Insight is one of 4 Honda cars named greenest by the ACEEE.

The 2014 Civic Hybrid scored a fifth place ranking on the Greenest Vehicles of 2014 list thanks to its ability to return 44 miles per gallon city/47 mpg highway; the Civic Natural Gas and its 27 mpg city/38 mpg highway took ninth; and the Honda Insight ranked 10th with 41 mpg city/44 mpg highway. The vehicles totaled respective Green Scores of 55, 54, and 53.

The Honda Odyssey, meanwhile, scored a “Superior” class ranking in the Minivan category with a Green Score of 36 earned from 19 mpg city/28 mpg highway.

Honda Cars Projected to Retain Value

Trusted vehicle review website Edmunds.com recently named several 2013 Honda cars the best in their segments for retaining value, demonstrating the automakers dedication to safe, reliable cars.

The 2013 Honda Civic was the winningest Honda car on the 2013 Best Retained Value Awards List, topping both the “Sedan $20K – $30K” and “Coupe Under $25,000” categories. The Honda Odyssey was also projected to retain the most value in the van segment of the study, and a number of other Honda vehicles, including the CR-V and Fit, were named as honorable mentions in their respective categories.

“Honda models definitely punch above their weight when it comes to value with class-leading quality, safety ratings, standard features and a company commitment to avoid value-sapping fleet sales” said Mike Accavitti, a Honda spokesperson.

The Edmunds.com Best Retained Value Awards assess a variety of factors, including safety and manufacturer reputation, to determine a vehicle’s projected worth after 5 years on the road. For more information, visit Edmunds.com.

Two Hondas named to 2012 Used Car Best Bets

Edmund’s has released its 2012 Used Car Best Bets – and Honda has captured the Compact SUV and Minivan categories. The 2005-2010 Honda CR-V and the Honda Odyssey made over the same years are promising used models.

Edmunds says that, “space-efficient, fuel-efficient and easy to drive and own, the Honda CR-V does almost everything well.” Because the small crossover starts at an affordable price point, it retains its value while still being affordable. Plenty of low-mileage used CR-Vs are on the market.

The Honda Odyssey has retained its value over the years, but its V6 engine (the most powerful in the segment) huge interior, hideaway third-row seat, top safety scores and solid reputation for quality and reliability make it worth the money. The 2005-2010 body styles are attractive, nimble, and convenient.

Looking at a used car can be the right decision for some buyers. And, used cars may be becoming cheaper. The National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) reported in April that we could see the price of used cars decrease this summer, and they have recently confirmed that report.  In fact, some models’ value could drop by $900 in only one month.
