Hydrogen fuel cell concept cars have completely stolen the show this year at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show. While several different brands have brought along a hydrogen concept—making a suddenly crowded market out of what was once a far-off dream of zero-emission vehicles—the Honda FCEV Concept is the best, most stylish, and most adventurous hydrogen concept at the show.
With super-aerodynamic design language and lines, coupled with extra room on the interior and an impressive, practical driving range of over 300 miles—with a stunning 3 minute refueling time—the FCEV Concept simply blows the competition away. The FCEV Concept won’t remain just a concept for long, either. Honda plans to bring it to production in 2015, hitting the US and Japan first before trekking to Europe.
Honda executives spoke very strongly about the actuality of the hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle. “While this car is a concept, it points toward a very real future,” said Tetsuo Iwamura, American Honda Motor Co.’s president and CEO. Mike Accavitti, senior vice president, agreed, saying “the Honda FCEV Concept not only sets our direction for our next generation fuel-cell vehicle in 2015, but for future improvements in electric drive technology.” He added, “The advancements we are making are substantial, meaningful and very real.”
Hopefully it’s clear by now, but it’s worth restating one more time: the FCEV is not a pipe dream. It’s a very real car and it will make a very real appearance at Avery Greene Honda sometime in 2015. We can’t wait that long, and we hope you can’t either. Come visit us today!
