3 Fall Car Care Tips for Vallejo, CA

Sticky post

Once fall arrives in Northern California, the temperatures get cooler, the weather gets wetter, and the days get shorter. The change in seasons gives you an excellent opportunity to catch up on some important vehicle maintenance. Here are three of the most important service tasks to take care of this autumn.

Check the lights

With the sun setting earlier and rising later, it’s more important than ever to make sure all your car’s lights are working properly. Test the headlights, taillights, daytime running lights, and brake lights. While you’re at it, make sure none of the lenses are clouded or otherwise damaged.

Check the tires

Each season, check your tire treads to ensure that they’re not too worn and can still grip the road. If you can stick a quarter upside-down between treads and still see the top of George Washington’s head, it’s time to replace your tires. Even if they’re still in good shape, you can care for your tires and help them last longer by scheduling a rotation at Avery Greene Honda in Vallejo.

Check the battery

Your Honda’s battery worked extra hard on summer’s hottest days, so fall is a good time to have it tested and make sure it still has plenty of life left. You may also want to check the cables and terminals to make sure they’re not loose or corroding.

At Avery Greene Honda, we’re here to help with these and any other fall service steps you need — just contact our service department!

Spring Car Care Tips to Leave Your Car Squeaky Clean

Spring Car Care Tips

Spring has sprung, which means it’s time to do some spring cleaning. While you’re bleaching your bathtub and scrubbing your skirting boards, make sure you also set aside time to take care of your car. These are some spring car care tips to help keep your car running smoothly.

Clean the exterior. While it doesn’t drop below freezing often in Vallejo, the colder weather can still do a number on your car’s exterior. From frost coating your windshield to sea air ruining your exterior paint, it’s important to give your vehicle’s exterior a good scrub at the end of the colder months.

De-clutter the interior. It’s easy to forget to clean out your car frequently when you have a busy schedule. Now is the time to get rid of any litter strewn about and wipe down your dashboard. You should consider getting out your vacuum and giving your carpets and upholstery a deep clean, too.

Check your tires. Warmer temperatures mean your tires’ pressure will begin to rise. Check that your tire pressure is within the recommended range. You should also check your tires for tread blading, bulges, or bumps.

Change your wipers out. Whether it’s heavy rain fall or fog, you want your visibility to be the best it can be. That’s why you should change out your windshield wipers now, so you get a streak-free windshield in inclement weather.

If spring cleaning isn’t your thing, bring your car in for service at Avery Greene Honda! Our expert technicians will ensure it’s ready for the warmer weather.

When Should You Change Your Tires?

Changing your tires is one of the most essential parts of standard vehicle maintenance, but many car owners don’t really know when the best time to do it is. If you’re thinking you might fall into this category, have no fear. Our service experts at Avery Greene Honda have a few easy tips for identifying when the time to change your tires has come.

Wear Bar

Modern tires are manufactured with something called a “wear bar.” A wear bar is a small ridge that is built inside the rubber of the tire below the tread. The wear bar is only visible when — you guessed it — the tire starts to wear. You can identify the wear bar simply by taking a close look at your tire. Do you see a horizontal bump under the tread? That’s your wear bar, and if it’s peeking out, it’s time for a new set of tires.

The Penny Test

Take a penny and stick it into your tire tread with Honest Abe upside down, or headfirst. If most of President Lincoln’s head is hidden inside the tread, your tires are still road-worthy. But, if you can see his forehead, it’s probably time to get a new set of tires.

If you’re unsure of the results of either of these quick tests, you can always schedule an appointment with our service department at Avery Greene Honda. One of our experienced service technicians are standing by to give you an honest recommendation for your next steps.
