Honda Face Shield Donation Gives 130,000 to Medical Staff

Face Shield For Medical Staff

As COVID-19 continues to spread around the world, Honda is taking a step towards helping support the healthcare workers who are on the front line. The Japanese carmaker recently made a donation of face shields to medical staff around the United States.

The Honda face shield donation will provide more than 130,000 shields to those that need it. The face shields were manufactured at Honda Engineering North America in Marysville, Ohio. This manufacturing plant used its existing plastic injection molding equipment to create the clear plastic face shields that are a vital part in protecting healthcare workers from the virus.

Honda of Canada Manufacturing is also helping produce these face shields, providing the frame needed to keep the shields on. The two companies have already created 70,000 face shields to 305 medical facilities in 45 states, and plan on making at least 60,000 more.

“It was a comprehensive effort with our Honda design and manufacturing teams working together to quickly solve this challenge,” said Eric Walli, regional planning leader of Honda North America. “We were looking at materials, doing scientific work to understand if what we put in a face shield would be safe for humans to wear, an all of this was occurring as we sought to rapidly begin and then ramp up production.”

Along with these face shields, Honda has also contributed in other ways. For instance, it turned multiple Odyssey minivans into coronavirus testing transport vans in Detroit.

Honda Ventilator Parts Created for Dynaflo

Ventilator Parts

Honda is lending a helping hand to those in need. The carmaker has started manufacturing and delivery vital parts for ventilators to Dynaflo Inc. of Reading, Pennsylvania. These Honda ventilator parts help Dynaflo produce their diaphragm compressors, which are a key component of portable ventilators, which are used in hospitals and by first responders throughout the United States.

Honda and Dynaflo have set a goal to produce 10,000 compressors per month when production reaches capacity, and will continue to do so through the end of August.

“Honda associates have successfully transformed a portion of our technical training center into an assembly line that will help support the urgent need to produce ventilator components,” said Rick Schostek, Executive Vice President, Honda North America, Inc. “With our supply of these key components to Dynaflo, we hope to help address one of the most pressing needs within the COVID-19 crisis.”

The production team for these parts has transformed 6,000 sq ft of the brand’s Technical Development Center in Marysville, Ohio, utilizing their production know-how to quickly ramp up production over the first few weeks. Honda associates are also working closely with Dynaflo personnel to ensure best practices in compressor assembly, allowing them to build and quality test the devices before they are shipped.

Thanks to Honda, thousands of first responders were able to get the ventilators they needed. If what you need is a car, though, then you should head on to Avery Greene Honda!

A Patriotic Past: Looking at the American History of Honda

American History of Honda | Vallejo, CA

Honda might be a Japanese carmaker, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have very, very deep roots in America. With the Fourth of July still fresh in our rearview mirror, let’s delve into the American history of Honda, seeing how the brand become established in this North American market.

Honda first came to America in 1970, introducing the N600 as its first-ever American-sold vehicle. In 1979, this Japanese carmaker made history by opening its first motorcycle plant on U.S. soil, hiring 55 Americans and 11 Japanese workers to begin this endeavor. The plant eventually expanded into a car plant in 1982.

Located in Marysville, Ohio, this Honda manufacturing plant was just the beginning. Since it was created, the plant has seen Marysville increase its population from 7,000 people in 1980 to more than 24,000 people in 2019. Honda has over 15,000 employees and more than 134 suppliers across Ohio. It was also the first Japanese carmaker to build engines and transmissions in the U.S., along with being the first to export U.S.-built cars to overseas markets.

Now, Honda has 12 manufacturing plants across the United States. It opened a new, state-of-the-art facility in Marysville in 2016 to help build the only supercar produced in America, and has exported 1.3 million automobiles from the United States since 1987. What this means in practical terms: the chances are good that the stylish new vehicle you’re considering at Avery Greene Honda was made right here in the U.S.A.

2019 Honda Passport | Vallejo, CA

The 2019 Honda Passport recently achieved the 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration as part of the New Car Assessment Program.* In earning the highest score that NHTSA offers for safety, the new Passport establishes itself as a confident, family-friendly option. The 2019 Honda Passport safety rating was also helped by its Honda Sensing® suite of safety and driver-assistance technologies. This suite, which is standard on the Passport, helps increase the driver’s awareness of his or her surroundings with technologies like Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™), a Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and a Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS).

This technology also comes standard on the 2019 Accord, Clarity series, Insight, Pilot, and Civic.*** Over 85 percent of all new Honda vehicles sold in 2019 have had the Honda Sensing® suite. Honda has sold over 2.1 million vehicles equipped with this technology since its introduction in 2015.
