Honda broke ground today at the site of its future “Smart Home” on the campus of the University of California, Davis.

The Smart Home is a prototype house designed to show off the innovative environmental technology currently in production from Honda. Honda hopes to fully realize its vision for emission-free living and sustainability through the project.

Technologies for the Smart Home will include solar powered energy, an energy management system, specially-designed HVAC and lighting systems and a solar-powered charging station for the Fit EV battery-powered car.

Honda hopes to complete the home by the end of 2013 and to offer it for lease to students at the University of California, Davis.
