2016 Hondas Named to IIHS Top Safety Pick+ List

Early this month, the 2016 Honda Civic joined three of its fellow models on the 2016 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ list. The new Accord Sedan and Coupe, the CR-V, and the Pilot were also named to this list. The Top Safety Pick+ rating is given to vehicles that earn an “Advanced” or “Superior” score on their front crash test.

The Civic Sedan, also deemed the 2016 North American Car of the Year, offers a wide range of safety features in addition to receiving excellent crash test ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The Civic includes the Honda Sensing technology suite, which raises the bar for the compact car class. This suite includes driver assist technologies like a Collision Mitigation Braking System, Lane Keeping Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, and several others.

Civic Sedans also come with Stability Assist with Traction Control, a rearview camera, and its Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structure, which gives it unbeatable strength in crash situations. No wonder the Civic is considered one of the safest cars on the road!

2016 Honda Pilot – An IIHS Top Safety Pick+

It’s an important time of year for the auto industry. Now’s the time when the big-talkers are separated from the big-doers, the haves from the have-nots: it’s safety award season. And, Honda’s just cleaned up big-time.

Honda took home a whopping eight IIHS Top Safety Pick+ ratings for its Honda and Acura models, pushing them to the forefront of the industry.

Every year, the IIHS (or Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) rates all vehicles in terms of their overall safety and reliability. The two coveted titles, the IIHS Top Safety Pick and the IIHS Top Safety Pick+, indicate to consumers that a vehicle is top-notch in terms of crashworthiness and security. To earn a Top Safety Pick rating, a vehicle must be named “Good” or better in all five crashworthiness categories, and for that amazing little plus-sign (meaning they’ve gone above and beyond the IIHS’s strict safety standards), a vehicle must also score an “Advanced” or “Superior” rating in front crash prevention.

The eight winning Honda models are the Honda Accord Sedan and Coupe; the Honda CR-V; the Honda Pilot; the Acura ILX and RLX sedans; and the Acura MDX and RDX SUVS.

Honda Civic Wins Overall KBB Best Buy Award

The all-new Honda Civic recently received top honors from Kelley Blue Book (KBB). The KBB Best Buy Awards are given to vehicles that exceed in performance, efficiency, styling, technology, affordability, and more. It’s no wonder the Civic took home the gold.

According to Honda, the 2016 Civic topped the Overall Winner category; however, there were also some winners in other categories. The Civic also won the Small Car category, the CR-V won the Small SUV category, the Pilot took the Mid-Size award, and the Odyssey dominated the Minivan category.

Jeff Conrad, senior vice president and general manager of the Honda Division, stated, “This prestigious award from KBB.com helps current and future buyers with their purchase decisions and further solidifies the notion that for customers who purchase a Honda, be it a car or a light truck, they are making an ‘overall’ smart choice.”

The KBB Best Buy Award was specifically given to the new Civic because it is a market-leader in every segment. It is new and updated, with a fresh exterior and interior, the best in safety, tons of features, and fantastic performance. What’s not to like about the new Civic?

CUV vs. SUV – What’s the difference?

When searching for a new car, you may have heard the term “crossover SUV” casually used to describe vehicles of a certain kind.

But what exactly is a crossover SUV? In this blog, we will help you understand the differences between traditional SUVs and CUVs.

The SUV: The sport utility vehicle, or SUV, is a large automobile that typically combines the towing strength of a pickup truck with the passenger capacity of a van. The SUV became popular in the mid-1990s as an “off-road” vehicle and slowly gained the mainstream popularity in the early 2000s as replacements for station wagons or minivans. Today, full-size SUVs are often developed with 4WD and off-road capabilities, as well as body-on-frame designs.

SUV Pros:

  • More room than most sedans or station wagons
  • Size offers safety advantages
  • Off-road capability
  • Towing  Potential

SUV Cons:

  • Low fuel economy
  • High emissions

The CUV: Designed as a more road-based offshoot of the SUV, the crossover SUV, or CUV, gained popularity in the late 2000s. CUVs are typically smaller than the traditional SUV, combining SUV features with those of a station wagon or hatchback. The CUV is also constructed with a unibody design and rarely features the off-road capabilities of a full-size SUV. Examples of 2013 Honda CUVs include the Crosstour, CR-V and Pilot.

CUV Pros:

  • Better gas mileage
  • Lower fuel emissions
  • More space than average sedan
  • Generally safe

CUV Cons:

  • Little to no off-road capability
