Honda S2000 Roadster Rumored for 2018

Honda’s 70th anniversary is drawing near and the Japanese automaker could be looking to celebrate in a big way. The automaker’s current S660 roadster isn’t coming to American shores and the Acura NSX is out of many drivers’ budgets. That only leaves one option: the Honda S2000 roadster.

Honda launched the original S2000 roadster back in 1998 for its 50th anniversary which gives many enthusiasts hope. As the brand’s 70th anniversary is in 2018, talk of the glorious return is only increasing.

One sticking point of many pessimists is the fact that Honda doesn’t have a platform for the new compact, rear-wheel drive sports car. That isn’t killing the vibe though. Both the S660 roadster and Acura NSX have their own dedicated platforms. Who’s to say Honda can’t do the same for the S2000 roadster?

Car and Driver talked to a source inside the company who stated that the S2000 successor is on its way. Expected to weigh in at less than 3,000 pounds, it will be powered by an altered 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine that’s currently in the Civic Type R.

The source also claims that the S2000 will be built with the Acura NSX at the Performance Manufacturing Center in Ohio.

“A large complement of R&D staff from Japan are already in Ohio working on the car,” the source said, “They have more time now that the NSX is finished.”

Here at Avery Greene Honda, we can’t wait for the arrival of the all-new S2000 roadster!

Honda Civic Type R’s Nurburgring Lap Time Trounces Old Record

In stunning fashion, the Honda Civic Type R officially clobbered its past Nurburgring lap time and crushed stereotypes about a front-wheel drive in the process. The upcoming 2015 Civic Type R posted a lap time of 7:50.63, beating the previous front-wheel drive record of 7:54.36.

Honda released the video of the Civic Type R’s lap time and it will surprise you as much as it did anyone else. The turbocharged Type R generates 306 horsepower and has a top speed of nearly 170 mph; it’s outfitted with a three-pedal manual gearbox.

The Honda Civic Type R’s Nurburgring lap time is only 10 seconds off of the pace of the Porsche Cayman GT4 and 30 seconds off of the Porsche 911 GT2 RS.

Although the Honda Civic Type R is only bound for Europe we at Avery Greene Honda still love it just as much! If you want to see the full video of the Civic Type R’s Nurburgring lap time check out the video below.
