Hondas Ready For Spring - Vallejo, CA

Why You Should Get Your Car Ready for Spring

You know what they say—if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. But the truth is, even if your car doesn’t seem to be begging for help now, it might do well with a little extra care. Avery Greene Honda recommends that you get your car ready for spring so that it runs well and looks great all throughout the warmer seasons.

Get A Checkup

It’s important to get your oil changed every three months or so, and the beginning of spring is a great time to do it. This will also give your mechanic a chance to look over the rest of vehicle and to check things like brake fluids and wheel alignment, which may need some attention after a long, hard winter.

Clean the Exterior

Honda Ridgeline Spring Fishing - Vallejo, CAIf you have a busy schedule like most people, you know that it’s tempting to just hope that the rain will clean your car as much as it needs it. However, much of your car—and especially the undercarriage—may have built up road salt from the winter. This can ultimately cause corrosion and rusting if left on for too long. Use a power wash to clean underneath, and a soapy towel to scrub off grime.

Get New Wipers

April showers are no lie, and you’ll want to be prepared for them. Spring is a great time to get new wipers so that you’ll have the best possible visibility for safe driving when the rain starts to pour.

Spring Car Care Tips

The harsh winter weather can do a seriously number on your car, especially if it’s an older model. In order to get it into tip-top shape for spring, love and attention is all your car needs. Best of all, getting your car ready for the fast-coming warmer weather is easy. Here are a few quick spring car care tips from at Avery Greene Honda’s service department!

  1. under the hoodUnder the Hood – Winter is a harsh season and if you parked outside, it’s time to take a look under the hood. Make sure to check all of your belts and hoses for wear and cracks. Verify that your coolant isn’t too old to ensure your car won’t overheat. If you aren’t car-savvy, a dealership service department can check for you. Better safe than sorry!
  2. Wiper Blades – Ensuring your wiper blades can handle the spring rains should be a top priority. You never know when you’ll be driving through a storm, after all. Look at the blades for cracks and wear. Ice can do a number on your wiper blades so don’t skimp on new ones.
  3. Wash – Last, but not least, wash your car. Dirt, grime, and road salt can build up over winter and each can do damage to your paint if left unattended. A simple car wash will remove most of the residue and leave you with a sparkling car!

Tire Care Tips to Prepare Your Car for Fall

For many people, it is hard to believe that the only thing between your car and the rode is a little bit of plastic filled with air. While there are many important parts to your car, one of the most important is your tires. These plastic donuts allow you to not only have a smooth ride, but also can increase or decrease your fuel efficiency with ease. Because of the importance of your tires, it’s also important to take care of them. As the weather begins to cool off this fall, make sure you follow these tire care tips to ensure your car will be in prime condition!

Keep an eye on your tire pressure. As the temperature decreases, so can you tire

pressure, which can affect your driving in multiple ways. Not only does tire pressure increase your chances of a blow out, but it also decreases your fuel economy significantly. Your steering is also affected by low tire pressure, which causes your car to drift one way or the other, making handling difficult. To ensure your safety and a great driving experience, be sure to check your tire pressure on the same day each month—we promise, you won’t regret it.

Don’t forget to listen to Honest Abe. According to the history books, Abraham Lincoln wasn’t a liar, which is a good thing because he sure knows how to measure tire tread. One of the most important ways to take care of our tires is to check tire tread. All you need to do is take a penny, insert it into the tread with Abe’s head upside down. If you can see the top of Abe’s head, then you need new tires. If your head mostly disappears, you’re in the clear. Who knew a penny—or Abraham Lincoln, for that matter—could be so helpful even now?

Rotate, rotate, rotate! Tire rotation is the top way to ensure your tires have the equal opportunity to wear down. Rotate them every 5,000 to 7,00 miles to maximize the life of your tire—you might even want to do it every time you get your oil changed. It’s an easy way to remember!

Choose the right tires for you. Each car has a recommended tire that is recommended by the manufacturer. Make sure you choose a tire that the company suggests, as it probably works the best with your car. Also, take the climate in which you live into consideration. If you’re driving through snow every winter, purchasing snow tires might be a good idea, whereas they are not a necessity when you live in Southern California.

These tire care tips are sure to keep your tires in top condition. If you have any questions regarding tire maintenance, bring your car in to Avery Greene Honda today for assistance!

Honda Uni-Cub Makes Walking Obsolete

Honda has long been working on robotic balancing devices, think ASIMO, the walking Honda robot. Now, Honda has transferred some of that technology into a personal mobility device called the Honda Uni-Cub.

The Uni-Cub works along the same lines as a Segway, but instead of standing on a large device, you sit on it, like a stool. To control the movements, you simply lean in the direction you want to move and it responds accordingly.

We could see a device like this being great for workers who spend large parts of their days walking through large warehouses, or those with physical handicaps. A device like this could cut down on time spent walking letting them get more work done. And, it leaves your hands free, so you can check notes or make a phone call while you ride.

Check out this video to get an idea of how it works.

What do you think about the Uni-Cub? Will it be a useful device or something that will just make some people lazier?

Visit Avery Greene Honda today to learn about new Honda developments, both inside and outside the automobile industry! We offer a great selection of new and used cars for Vallejo-area buyers!
