Most Congested Cities in North America

California drivers – know that your complaints are legitimate. But, at least you don’t live in Canada.

Los Angeles earned the top spot on the TomTom North American Congestion Index, as drivers average 20 minutes of delay daily on the city’s 13-mile stretch of Interstate 405.  The study utilized information from millions of anonymous real-time driving patterns gathered from mobile navigation customers to calculate its results.

What’s most surprising is that only two of the top five cities for gridlock were in The United States. San Francisco came in at No. 3, but the rest of the top five can be found in Canada. Vancouver can in at No. 2, Montreal at No. 4 and Toronto at No.5.  The rest of the top 10 are all U.S. cities: Washington, Seattle, New York, Chicago and Miami respectively.

If You Bought a Car this Year, it’s Probably a Non-Color

White – or its shiny cousin, silver – and black top the color list for 2012. White overtook silver last year as the most popular color.

According to the Associated Press, twenty-two percent of cars and trucks built for the 2012 model year are white, making it the most popular color worldwide. Silver is a close second, at 20 percent, followed by black, at 19 percent. Runners-up? Gray and (shocking!) red. The rankings are supplied by automotive paint supplier PPG Industries Inc., a Pittsburgh-based company that provides paints to a number of OEMs.

Color preferences vary by geography, vehicle type, and industry. More red vehicles are purchased in North America, while black and gray are most popular in Europe. Also, pickup trucks are more likely to be white, because a high number of North American pickups are purchased by business or government agencies wishing to paint logos on them.
