New Honda Sport Hybrid i-MMD Powertrain Gives Two Motors to Hybrids

Honda recently announced yet another game-changing technology upgrade: adding a two-motor hybrid system–being called the Sport Hybrid i-MMD powertrain–to its larger vehicles, starting with the Odyssey minivan found on Japanese market

This will not only increase the power of the already large vehicles, but also the two-motor hybrid system will seriously improve vehicles’ fuel economy, which is typically a weak point for large models on the automotive market.

The brilliant engineers at Honda were able to make the two-motor hybrid system work for the Odyssey by cutting down on the size and weight of some of the heftier components, such as the battery.

It’s unclear when the Honda Sport Hybrid i-MMD powertrain will find its way into American vehicles, but it’s safe to assume that it’s on its way, particularly for Honda minivans and other vehicles similar in size.

In the meantime, visit us at Avery Greene Honda any time to check out what we currently have available!

Honda to Install 120 EV Chargers at Honda Headquarters

charging stationIt was announced in mid-October that Honda will install 120 EV chargers at Honda Headquarters in Torrance, California. The goal of adding these chargers is to encourage the use of electric vehicles and other cars using alternative fuels.

A new generation of plug-in vehicles both hybrid and fully-electric is due by 2018, and Honda wants to prepare for this with the installation of charging stations. The installations will take place in two stages, the first of which is currently going on.

Honda plans to use this opportunity to support the Torrance community as well by installing a fast charging station near the headquarters for the town’s residents to use on their daily commute. Steven Center, the vice president of Environmental Business Development and the Product Regulatory Office, said that “making workplace charging ubiquitous and accessible is the cornerstone of an effective public charging strategy.” He went on that it’s necessary to make driving an EV a convenient option, especially for those who don’t have access to chargers at home.

Boxy Honda Concept D Debut Occurs in Shanghai

HondaHonda revealed an all-new concept model at the Shanghai Auto Show earlier this month, showcasing what could likely be a future production vehicle. This bold crossover concept, called “Concept D,” has the aggressive, boxy front of a truck with the slim, angular body of a crossover.

The truck look continues with the Concept D’s huge 21-inch wheels. It doesn’t appear to have an exhaust tip, however, so many are speculating the model will be an electric car.

While we don’t know what exactly this concept could precede, we are hoping that it does go to production, and further–that the production model hits US markets. The Honda Concept D debut in Shanghai leads us to believe it will be China-only, but fingers crossed!

Here’s a gallery of the concept, so you can check it out for yourself. What do you think of the Honda Concept D? Share your thoughts with Avery Greene Honda in the comments.

Honda Takes Title of Bestselling Automaker in California

2015 Honda Accord

2015 Honda Accord

Time to downshift, Toyota Prius. After taking bestseller in California for the past three years, the hybrid has been pushed out. In 2014, the Honda Accord has taken the title of bestselling automaker in California. It was a close race and came down to the wire, with the Accord selling 71,578 units to the Prius’ 71,210 units. That’s not all. The Prius also faced fierce competition in another Honda model: the Civic.

Both the Accord and Prius come in four models. The Accord sells in coupe and sedan body styles with an additional hybrid model and plug-in hybrid version. The latter two sell in low volumes. The Prius consists of the Liftback, C subcompact, V wagon, and plug-in hybrid. With an aging design and an increasing number of hybrids and electric cars, it was only a matter of time.

Prius sales increased by only 2%. The Accord, however, rode the recovery wave and jumped 17.3% compared to 2013. Now that the Honda Accord has ousted the Prius for bestseller in California, what model will be next to overtake the Prius? The 13-time bestselling car in America, the Toyota Camry? The longtime favorite nameplate, the Toyota Corolla? We at Avery Greene Honda can’t wait to see these two Japanese automakers duke it out over California.

Honda Developments Revealed in Detroit

FCV Is One of Many Exciting Honda Developments Revealed in Detroit

Honda Developments Revealed in DetroitRather than present a bunch of flashy concept cars that never go into production, Honda decided to blow people away with its plan for automotive domination at the recent Detroit Auto Show. Those plans had everything to do with how Hondas get around.

In the gasoline department, Honda released a few details on an entirely new family of engines. Without saying which exact models would be receiving the new engine, the automaker said it would be a four-cylinder VTEC turbo engine. Honda is spending a mere $340 million to get the engines made at its Anna, Ohio plant. We should see the new machine in action by the end of 2015.

In the alternative fuel department, Honda did indeed present a concept at the Detroit Show. The FCV is a sleek, very futuristic-looking fuel-cell vehicle with a projected range is 300 miles. Best of all, its fill-up time only takes about three to five minutes.

That wasn’t all! Honda divulged plans to develop both a battery-electric vehicle as well as a plug-in hybrid in the near future. We at Avery Greene Honda are excited about the future of the Honda Developments Revealed in Detroit.
